Food Product Reviews

I do not eat a ton of prepackaged foods for many reasons, so this list may be short, but I will try to add to it as much as I can. In general, I prefer to make my own baked goods because they are less expensive and tend to taste better. There area few exceptions like a basic sandwich bread and pasta, which I will always buy. If you want to make your own, I suggest Better Batter All Purpose Flour (see below) because it is the best, in my opinion. Also, see my book suggestions on the resource page. I suggest Gluten Free on A Shoestring series of cookbooks by Nicole Hunn.

Food For Life Brown Rice English Muffins
I love these english muffins! They are so good! They take a little longer to toast than traditional english muffins, but once toasted, they are a bit crispy and delicious. Some brands are rather "cakey" and sweet, but these taste more like the ones my gluten-eating family enjoys. They make excellent breakfast sandwich "McMuffins." This company Food For Life also makes several breads, which I do not like at all.

Better Batter All Purpose Flour Mix
Best gluten free flour blend I've ever used! By far superior in quality to anything else on the market, in my opinion. It contains xanthan gum already and is considered a cup for cup substitute for regular all purpose flour. Better Batter also makes baking mixes, but I haven't tried those yet.

Udi's Gluten Free Bread
My favorite breads and buns. They make bagels, hamburger and hot dog buns, as well as a few varieties of bread. It is perfect for a sandwich and has the softest texture of any bread out there. Definitely a  favorite.

Dellalo Gluten Free Pasta
Fantastic choice for gluten free pasta. THey have several options of shapes, including spaghetti, rotini, and shells. Great taste and texture, not mushy at all. In fact, with a sauce over it, you can't even tell it is gluten free pasta! I've even made baked macaroni and cheese with it, and it held up very well.

Annie's Gluten Free Rice Pasta & Cheddar Mac & Cheese
I like to have this around on occasion when I'm just too lazy to cook. While this may be a better choice as far as boxed macaroni and cheese goes, it's still mediocre at best. I will stick with homemade.

Glutino Gluten Free Original Crackers
These are a great super plain cracker to have around. I'd equate them to a saltine style cracker, although, lets be realistic and say I haven't eaten a saltine since 1990. These are a great plain cracker to eat with soup and I used them to help with morning sickness when I was pregnant.

Crunchmaster Gluten Free Crackers
These are a go to cracker for a cheese and wine appetizer. They have a great crunch and are excellent with any cheese that I've ever tried. I don't even serve regular crackers when we have guests, just these and everyone always loves them. Plus, they are safe for my son with a nut allergy.

Tinkyada Pasta
This is a great pasta choice, the texture is great and the price is lower than most others. I'd say to ignore the package cooking directions and instead cook for 7-8 min, then taste every 1-2 min until al dente.

Wow! Baking Company Cookies and Treats
This is a Washington state company that I love. They make amazing cookies in a variety of flavors and they are so soft! Their brownies are to die for! Their customer service is also excellent. My only complaint is that they are processed in a facility with peanuts and tree nuts, making them an excellent treat for me, but unsafe for my son. Check your health food store freezer for these goodies, I've found them hidden there at my stores. These are a must try!
